New golf tournament to benefit Carson City graduating seniors

The Holiday with A Hero team is hosting a golf tournament to launch its new scholarship program. All proceeds from the event will benefit students in the Carson City School District’s McKinney-Vento Students in Transition program.

The golf tournament will begin with a shotgun start at 9 a.m. May 14 at Silver Oak Golf Course in Carson City. Teams have until Monday, May 2 to register for the event. The cost per golfer is $125 and includes golf, range balls, goodie bag and lunch. Registration forms and payments may be made at https://www.holidaywithahero.com/events. If you would like to pay by check or donate, please mail checks payable to Holiday with a Hero to: Holiday with a Hero c/o Kadee Mason, 808 College Parkway, suite 106, Carson City, NV 89706.

After nearly two decades of providing Christmas shopping sprees to children in need, Holiday with a Hero is looking to help in an even bigger way. The Hero Scholarship will provide post-high school education funds for graduates who have participated in the program, which serves children who live in motels, cars, campgrounds, or double up with other families. “When you see these kids year after year and what they overcome to succeed, it’s clear who the real heroes are,” said co-founder Meliah Gonzales. “We are really pleased to be able to give them a boost in preparing for their futures.”

Since 2005, Holiday with a Hero has provided nearly $325,000 to ensure underprivileged children in Carson City have a proper Christmas. The program, a partnership between the Carson City Sheriff’s Office, Carson City Fire Department and the Carson City School District, pairs first responders and other community volunteers with students in the McKinney-Vento Students in Transition program for an annual Christmas shopping spree.

Beginning in 2022, Holiday with a Hero is launching a new scholarship program to further support local students and this new golf tournament is the primary fundraiser for the scholarship portion of our services.
